Why We Should Be Talking About Chipotle

A new wave is coming. This wave will positively transcend humans and the way we interact with earth’s resources. Realizing the harm that we have done to ourselves as well as animals and the earth, conscious humans have made an effort to make a change.

This change is known to many as the “green movement.” But there is another a movement that I have been watching and supporting, I don’t know the official name but it’s main philosophy is similar to the green movement. I will call it the slow food* movement. The slow food movement is the opposite of the fast food movement. The Slow food movement involves taking a stand against the readily accessible nutritionally deficient food in our fast food restaurants and grocery stores and going back to the way we used to eat.

Chipotle is a fast food restaurant, right? But these guys are still a part of the slow food movement, because they are supporters of eating the old fashion way.

Many meat companies and restaurants process meat from cows that have been fed on a corn diet. This is not the way it was done back in the day. Cows are supposed to consume grass. When cows start consuming corn, more ecoli than normal builds up. Just to let you know the farmers that do feed cows corn do so because it will make the cow bigger, which means more meat. Chipotle serves meat that is fed on a vegetarian diet which does not include corn. Furthermore Chipotle’s meat has not been treated with antibiotics.

Chipotle has about 830 restaurants and their philosophy is to serve food with integrity in each and every restaurant. Let me read you some of their info:

“Armed with out philosophy of Food with Integrity, we take pride in sourcing the highest quality, nutritious ingredients from local and family farmers who are committed to sustainably raising antibiotic and hormone-free meats and organic vegetables.”

Wow!

More… “Our cheese and sour cream come from cows never given the synthetic hormone rBGH, About a third of the beans we serve are organically grown. As well, Wherever possible, we get our produce from local family farms each summer.”

Their “philosophy is solidly based on a foundation of not exploiting animals, the environment, or people.”

There are many fast food chains that are not worried about the health of humans, animals, and the earth’s resources. But there are some chains that are making a difference. We should be talking about these chains.

Another reason why I like Chipotle is because they partnered up with FOOD INC, a great movie that exposes the food industry. Watch the Trailer Here. At the free showing, they handed out free taco coupons.

Also, I recently went into Chipotle the other day and realized they lowered their prices! :) .

* Okay, so I didn’t coin the phrase “slow food.” It is actually a real movement, check it out. www.Slowfood.com
